“Aubrey Plaza” by Aricel

By: Francie Cohen

Aricel DuBois is an emerging music artist whose unique sound blends ethereal melodies, evocative lyrics, and rich, atmospheric production to create a sonic experience that transports listeners to a familiar and otherworldly world. With roots in classical training, but an ear for the experimental, Aricel has quickly established a reputation for crafting music that is as emotionally resonant as it is genre-defying. Her love for pop music is an essential part of her creations.

This song is dedicated to an actress I thought embodies being a different “type” of girl or female character who is out of the norm and redefines what vulnerability looks like. Her representation of “weird” girls inspires me to feel comfortable with all parts of myself, even the unconventional! The hook is inspired by her SNL monologue in which she clarifies that although people assume she has no feelings or cares for things, in reality, she does! She represents the perfect balance of being true to all sides of yourself.
