Solitaire by Lindsay K

Solitaire (2024) explores trying to find your identity as a young artist — so much happens simultaneously, and I am constantly changing. I don't know how to describe myself or what I like and dislike because I am everything, even opposites, all at the same time. I go through periods of feeling very connected to my environment: creative, passionate, and interested in everything and everyone around me. But I also go through periods of detachment, feeling disconnected and isolated from my body and what's around it. I used to be hard on myself for going through these waves, not understanding why I couldn't always feel deeply and make art. Over time, though, I've realized that these breaks are necessary, and it's okay not to feel connected and creative all the time and still be an artist. Making Solitaire was my way of visualizing this acceptance — the deck of cards includes a mixture of polarizing emotions, and whichever you choose when shuffling is random and impermanent.
